Advent Wreath Dinner November 29, 2015

Advent Wreath Dinner photoView photos from this event - A record number of people turned out for our annual Advent Wreath Dinner. Every year families gather in Holy Family Hall to build their evergreen wreaths for Advent. The wreaths are blessed by our pastor and the first candle is lit to mark the opening of the Advent season. Then everyone enjoys a pasta dinner. This event has grown increasingly popular and this year the hall was filled to capacity.

A happy group of Holy Spirit parishioners joined in the celebration of the Fourth Synod of the Diocese of Bridgeport.

Father Robert Hyl

Our beloved and esteemed pastor from 1999 - 2013, Father Robert Hyl, went home to the Lord on Sunday, May 10 at about 1:00PM. He died very shortly after we prayed for him at every Mass - a beautiful grace for him and us. We continue to remember him in our prayers. Read his full obituary here.

30 Hour Famine - February 28 & March 1, 2015

View photos from this event
Eighteen youth from Holy Spirit spent the weekend fasting in order to save another child's life in the world.

Two 5th graders went for 5 hours without food, two 7th graders went 11 hours without food, and fourteen 8th, 9th, and 10th graders went the full 30 hours! They learned about homelessness from Dale Williams of Midnight Run; played tribe games, completed various charitable service projects, and broke their fast with the Eucharist at the 10:00AM mass celebrated by Bishop Caggiano. We are so proud of the youth of our parish for sacrificing so others can have. God bless them. Read more about World Vision's 30 Hour Famine.

Pet Blessing, Ice-Cream Social & Pajama Program Collection

On the afternoon of Sunday, October 5, the day after the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, many parishioners brought their pets to Holy Spirit to be blessed. It was wonderful to be together to praise the Lord for his crea-tures – great and small– and to see the joy the dogs, cats, fish and birds brought to their owner/families. We then moved on to donations to the Pajama Program for local children in need. There was an overwhelmingly generous response from many people, whether they brought a pet, or just came to be a part of the day. Thank you so much to all who contributed. The afternoon then wrapped up perfectly with an Ice Cream Social. Thanks are in order to Dominic and Dawn Bria and their team of ice cream scoopers, to Julia Jennings and her team of youth volunteers, and to our photographers: Isabella Nuzzo, Christian Colegrave, and Chris Stuhrman.  Click here to see more photos.
